According to Blake, talking about small oblong pieces of coloured limestone set into flooring, irregularly disposed –
“A further development occurs in VI.2.22, where the oblong pieces (4.5cm x 1.8cm) are set obliquely in parallel rows throughout nearly the entire house.”

In the zoccolo were panels surrounded by “carpet” borders and separated by narrow panels with plants. In the middle of the zoccolo was a panel with painted sea animals, which can just be seen, centre left, under the missing plaster.
